Chetak

Hamara Kal (Our tomorrow)

Brief: The brand Chetak is one of the most loved automobile brands in India. When Bajaj Automobiles decided to re-launch their flagship scooter, but this time as an EV, people needed to be told that the old favorite was back, but this time in a new avatar, well equipped to better their future.

  • The film opens on a young boy on a scooter putting on his riding gear, he pulls on the gloves, buttons up his jacket, puts on the helmet and pulls out of the driveway.

He rides down the street, it’s a modern neighbourhood with manicured gardens.

He moves towards the countryside there is a farmer standing at the sidewalk asking for a lift.

The camera faces the front, we see the young helmet clad boy with the farmer riding pillion and his head bobbing along besides the boys as they continue down the road.

A little further they spot a little boy holding a puppy asking for lift.

Next is the front shot of helmet clad boy, the farmer and the boy both riding pillion, the farmer’s heads bobbing along on one side while the kid and puppy’s takes up the other side.

They continue further and the scenery changes to lush green trees lining the route. A Royal Bengal tiger is sitting in the middle of the road as the scooter approaches, he gets up.

Next is the front shot of helmet clad boy, the tiger joins them on the scooter, now it’s the farmer’s and tiger’s heads bobbing along on one side with the kid and puppy’s on the other side.

They move across a river and over a little bridge. There is a baby elephant waiting at the end of the bridge asking for a lift.

Camera faces the rider, now it’s the farmer’s and tiger’s heads bobbing along on one side of the boy while the kid and puppy take on the other side with the baby elephant’s head above them.

They move ahead on the road, passing under a canopy of trees where they come across a banyan tree with its long roots hanging out like an arm held out, asking for a lift.

The camera again faces the front, the farmer’s and tiger’s heads bobbing along on one side with the kid and puppy’s and the baby elephant’s head above them on the other side. And the tree bringing in the rear covering their heads like an umbrella.

As they ride along a snake slithers in from the side riding along for a while before climbing up the tree and curling itself on one of its branches.

A monkey jumps down up onto another of the branches, hanging out from the other side.

As they continue ahead a peacock flies down and perches itself on the top of the tree.

The camera pans to take in the whole visual and now it is the back shot of the scooter and we can see chetak logo on the back, as they ride off into the sunset, the peacock opens its feathers as the VO begins…

VO: Humare kal mein hum sabke liye jagah hai! Chetak Humara Kal.

  • The film opens on a little girl, putting a letter inside an envelope she has decorated. Her teenage brother knocks on her room door, he is holding a helmet, he gestures her - ‘Lets go!’
The girl takes her letter and walks out with the brother, as the narration starts. The brother pulls out his Chetak from the driveway, and they both drive down the road passing other people in the neighbourhood - there are other kids playing, a person is planting something, another is mowing the lawn, some are having a BBQ in the back yard, etc. Its a happy, green and beautiful neighbourhood.
The narration continues as they ride along, as the landscape keeps changing. At the end of their journey they reach a post office, the boy helps her post the letter and the film ends on them smile happily at each other.

The narration (In the voice of a little girl):

    Dear future,
Can you not wait a little please?
    We are trying.
Dadaji says, he used to play in big green fields,
    with trees all around.
We too have a tree at school,
    it’s a banyan tree.
Dear future, can you not wait a little please?
    We are trying.
We went on a safari during the holidays,
the jungle was magical like Narnia, big giant trees,
    I saw a Lion too,
    Bhaiyya said it’s en..en-dangered Sspishes,
It means it may go away in the future,
but papa says, many uncles-aunties are working in sanc-turary,
    to keep them safe,
Dear future…can you not wait a little please?
    They are trying.
We planted two trees in the backyard yesterday,
papa says they are for our future,
    trees give oxy-oxygen,
it gives life, we are also building a tank,
it’s to catch rain water falling from the roof,
It’s for the trees, they need water to grow,
    We are trying.
We put new lights in the garden,
    they light by the sun,
Even my little bedside turtle glows by the sun.
Dear future, can you not wait a little please?
    We are trying.
